Career Searches for People in the Executive MBA Program

Previously, people in the executive MBA entered the course in order to become smarter executives for their sponsors: their bosses. This has largely changed now, where most students in the executive MBA program are self-financed. Because of this, according to a top B-school, more are seeking to make a career change, whether during their program study or after graduation.

It was only about ten years ago that people really started getting interested in the EMBA. About three or so years ago, more and more people started asking for a career version of the EMBA. Career changes seemed to be the order of the day too in several researches investigating students' intentions and desires with the EMBA.

The business school has become a kind of temporary resting ground. A lot of Executive MBA takers are electing to actually do that career change, one way or another. Many B-schools started by bringing in career counselling specifically to coach EMBA students, whose needs vary from those studying full-time.

Most of the persons in the Executive version of the MBA simply trump their non-executive counterparts when it comes to the years they have spent in the actual business arena. But a lot of business schools are still adapting to their focused career needs. Quite a lot of people still do say that the colleges could stand to improve their counseling and placement services for the graduates, though.

Fortunately for degree-takers, many institutions are now giving them what they want. Some schools provide one-on-one counseling and career workshops for students. The main goal is to teach graduates the skills important to develop their careers now and in the future.

There is no abatement in the increase in number of those requesting that their schools assist them. Unfortunately, there seem to be more degree-holders than there are actualy professions. With that said, many students take the EMBA to make connections in hope of having a change.

The argument a few universities make is that there is still a fair number of company-sponsored degree-takers, and so career services are unnecessary. This has changed. Before, executive MBA program was intended to retain people, but now it is becoming a way to shift careers.

Many things are changing. Changing careers is widely accepted as a possibility for EMBA students, so much so that universities are beginning to institutionalize career services. But still, many schools resist making career programs like those offered to full-time MBA students.

Many people say the ideal would be to have placement and job fairs regularly at EMBA colleges. There may be issues with this for the universities, though. It is said that because the EMBA degree-takers go into the course with an occupation, they do not require career placement.

The many types of Executive MBA program, schools say, are intended to train students, not to lead them to other jobs directly. The general opinion, when it comes down to it, is that the EMBA is fast developing a trend of students seeking career shifts. It is necessary for the colleges to adapt to these changes.
